RF and Sensor Networks for Environmental and Climate Change Efficiency
38th ANNUAL SYMPOSIUM AND MINI-SHOW
WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 9, 2024
Hanover Manor, 16 Eagle Rock Ave., East Hanover, NJ 07936. 973-992-7425
Climate change poses significant challenges to people and the planet, affecting ecosystems worldwide. Technological tools such as RF (radio frequency), smart meters, sensor networks, satellite imagery, and IoT (Internet of Things) technologies such as LoRaWAN are essential to tackle these challenges. These tools enable real-time monitoring of resource usage and help identify inefficiencies.
RF technology, traditionally used in telecommunications for voice and data, has undergone a paradigm change, resulting in numerous innovations. The advancements in RF technology and wireless sensor networks have opened various applications for environmental monitoring across a wide range of RF frequencies.
The talk will explore how deploying RF technology and other applications has enabled the United Nations to conduct innovative real-time environmental monitoring. Through RF and sensor network applications, we collect, analyze, and interpret vast amounts of data related to environmental factors such as climate change. RF and other digital technologies facilitate better management of natural resources such as water, energy, and forests.
