Satellites for Critical Infrastructure Monitoring
Satellites are valuable tools for civil infrastructure protection as they enable inexpensive and reliable solutions that can enhance existing monitoring plans. A case study of how satellites are being used in the areas of ice management will be presented and other applications including, ice roads, northern roads, flood prediction and search and rescue will be presented. In all these cases, the frequent data collection possible even in remote regions makes it possible to plan for, prevent, and respond quickly to events.
Biography:
Pradeep Bobby completed all his university training at Memorial University, most recently completing his PhD in Electrical Engineering in 2020. As Director of the Earth Observation (EO) Team at C-CORE he leads a team of scientists and engineers focused on deriving information from satellite imagery to advance research and support routine surveillance services. Much of his work has been in the area of maritime surveillance in northern environments, but he has worked in the areas of many areas of application development using EO data.
