Report on the Lecture on 'AI-Enabled Brain-Computer Interfacing Technology in Robotics' by Dr. Ganesh Roy
On 23rd January 2025, Dr. Ganesh Roy delivered an insightful lecture on "AI-Enabled Brain-Computer Interfacing Technology in Robotics" for the BTech/MTech students of the University of Calcutta. This invited talk was organized by the IEEE Calcutta University Student Branch in association with the AI and Robotics Club, IRPE. The event was coordinated by Mr. Prithwijit Mukherjee, Chairman, IEEE Calcutta University Student Club and Student Advisor, AI and Robotics Club, IRPE.
Dr. Roy's lecture was structured into three distinct parts:
-
Introduction to AI and Machine Learning Algorithms: Dr. Roy began by introducing the basic concepts of Artificial Intelligence (AI), covering key areas such as classification, regression, and fundamental machine learning algorithms. He also explained the differences between supervised and unsupervised learning, providing a solid foundation for the students to understand AI's role in robotics.
-
Brain-Computer Interface (BCI) Technology: The second part focused on BCI technology, particularly EEG (Electroencephalography). Dr. Roy discussed how EEG data is recorded, preprocessed, and how features are extracted from EEG signals. He also showcased some of his own research work in this field, demonstrating how EEG signals can be used for advanced applications in robotics.
-
EEG-Based Rehabilitation Devices: In the final part, Dr. Roy explained how EEG-based rehabilitation devices can aid in the recovery of patients. He shared several research projects that he has worked on, highlighting how these devices contribute to improving the quality of life for people undergoing rehabilitation.
The event provided valuable insights into the cutting-edge intersection of AI, robotics, and healthcare, offering students a deeper understanding of these technologies' potential applications. The lecture was well-received by the attendees, who appreciated Dr. Roy's clarity and depth of knowledge in these advanced topics. The event concluded with a Q&A session, where students engaged with Dr. Roy to further explore his research and the broader applications of these technologies.
