IEEE APSCON 2025 – YP Welcome Reception, WiSe-YP Big Idea Pitch Competition and Career Talk
The YP Welcome Reception and WiSe-YP Big Idea Pitch Competition were collocated standout events at the 3rd International IEEE Applied Sensing Conference (APSCON 2025), held from 19–21 January 2025 at IIT Hyderabad, India. These activities were organized by the Young Professionals Community of IEEE Sensors Council with Dr. Abhishek Appaji and Dr. Sangeeta Singh serving as the YP Organizing Chair. A session on Career Talk by Pallavi Eswara, Director, Postdoctoral Affairs, Boston University was also arranged and she gave an insight on Applying a Project Management Lens to job search on 21 Jan 2025.
Purpose and Relevance:
The events aimed to empower IEEE Young Professionals by providing a platform for networking, mentorship, and showcasing innovative ideas in the field of sensors. The YP Welcome Reception facilitated meaningful connections between mentors and mentees, fostering cross-disciplinary collaborations and career guidance. The WiSe-YP Big Idea Pitch Competition encouraged young innovators to address critical challenges in sensor technologies and explore the feasibility of their ideas for commercialization.
Highlights and Success:
The YP Welcome Reception hosted over 166 participants, including 61 IEEE members, who engaged in interactive networking sessions with industry leaders and academics. The WiSe-YP Big Idea Pitch Competition attracted 13 teams from premier institutions, with Dr. Atindra Kanti Mandal (IIT Bombay) winning for his project, "Milk e-Health: Milk Tester for Edible Oil Detection." Two additional teams received appreciation certificates. A session on Career Talk by Pallavi Eswara gave new insight about Project Management Lens for job search.
