The IEEE Chattanooga Section invites you to join us for a virtual Lunch and Learn to hear from Dr. Yilu Liu regarding her nationally recognized work on Grid Visibility.

Dr. Yilu Liu, UT Knoxville CURENT Deputy Director and UT-ORNL Governor’s Chair Professor

Dr. Liu is the Deputy Director of CURENT, a graduated National Science Foundation (NSF) Engineering Research Center that was jointly supported by NSF and the Department of Energy (DoE) for a period of 10 years before becoming self-sustaining. She is also the Governor’s Chair Professor of ORNL/UTK, a Fellow of IEEE and a member of the Academy of Engineering. She joined the University of Tennessee in August 2009 from Virginia Tech. She also has a joint appointment with Oak Ridge National Laboratory.

Dr. Liu received her B.S. in Electrical Engineering at Xian Jiaotong University in 1982, and then received her M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering from Ohio State University in 1986 and 1989, respectively. Her areas of interest include power systems and smart grids.

We will hear about Dr. Liu’s efforts on expanding grid visibility, detecting frequency events, and gaining new insights needed to accommodate more inverter based resources on the grid.
