From Physics to Wall Street: My Accidental, Unplanned and Eclectic Life and Career
As you go through life, many people leave lasting impressions on you. I am thankful for the many people whom I was fortunate to meet, learn from, look up to, and inspire me. I am most grateful for my family: my husband Elie and my two sons, EJ and John, who brought joy and meaning to my life.
I was born and raised in a suburb of Beirut, Lebanon, the second of four children. I immigrated to the US in pursuit of higher education. My husband and I met in college and we both majored in Physics. I was the trailing spouse for many years and was the primary care giver of our two boys. Even though I hold a BS in physics and an MS in computer science, my career choices varied and I worked in many different industries. In this eBook, I talk about the value of a solid basis in math and the sciences no matter what career you end up choosing. I talk about the value of raising kids who are ready for the global economy, I talk about how I leveraged every piece of knowledge I have to create a meaningful career for myself while raising two children and being the trailing spouse. I talk about the value of hard work, how to be a lifelong learner, the importance of networking, the rewards of taking calculated risks, why it is key to build a good partnership with your manager, what loyalty means, how you can define your own career path no matter what the norm is
I have been fortunate to have worked at some of the most respected institutions in the world. My career path has definitely not been linear; it was anything but planned. For the first 15 years in the workforce, I was the trailing spouse and had to look for a rewarding job within the geography of where my husband was working. I hope my story inspires the younger readers to be bold and aspirational in all aspects of their lives and careers.
