PERA 2024- Lab and Pilot Site Visit at IIT Kanpur
As part of the PERA 2024, the IEEE PES SBC, IIT Kanpur, organized an engaging Lab and Pilot Site Visit, covering four technically significant locations on the IIT Kanpur campus. The event aimed to provide participants with a hands-on understanding of cutting-edge energy systems and innovations in the field.
The four sites included the state-of-the-art EV Charging Station at IIT Kanpur, which demonstrates the university’s commitment to fostering electric mobility. The visit continued to the Thermal Energy Storage Plant, showcasing energy-efficient technologies for thermal energy storage. Participants then explored the Advanced Power System Simulation Lab, equipped with high-performance, state-of-the-art devices such as RTDS, OPAL-RT, and Typhoon-HIL simulators, which are pivotal in modeling, testing, and validating power systems. Finally, the tour concluded at the Smart Grid Control Centre, a hub for monitoring, control, and management of grid operations, reflecting advancements in smart grid technology.
To promote sustainability in travel during the event, electric rickshaws were arranged to commute participants between the sites, emphasizing eco-friendly practices. Over 50 participants joined the visit in four different batches, ensuring a comprehensive and interactive experience at each location.
