As Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs) are applied into more applications due to their ability to conserve energy, a side effect is increased harmonics which are imposed onto the power system. IEEE 519 has been applied to define acceptable limits to harmonics and manufactures have provided solutions to mitigate harmonics to meet this guideline. This presentation will discuss the causes and effects of harmonics and how to best mitigate them.
