Principle and purpose of field detection methods of hazardous materials like explosives, chemical warfare agents, toxic industrial compounds and biological agents. Short review of contemporary field detection methods use by military and police services: Raman spectroscopy, FTIR spectroscopy, ion mobility spectrometry (IMS), mass spectrometry (MS), UV-VIS spectroscopy, laser induced fluorescence (LIF), quartz-microbalance (QMB). The most important goals of new research and development project conducted in Military University of Technology: development of existing methods of field detection, cross-detection in field analysis, the use of devices outside their main purpose, the improving of existing procedures for elimination of threats generated by  hazardous materials used for criminal purposes.

Biography:


Mateusz Szala is assistant professor at the Military University of Technology in Warsaw, Poland. His scientific work is focused on synthesis, analysis and testing of energetic materials. Leading researcher and manager of ca. 20 R&D projects financed by national and external institutions (NATO, EU).  Author and co-author of 80 (JCR) papers, Hirsch index 18 (2025).
