Dr. Vinay Sewdien

Biography:

Dr. Vinay Sewdien holds a strong academic background in electrical power engineering. He earned a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Electrical (Power) Engineering from Anton de Kom Universiteit van Suriname (2008–2011), followed by a Master of Science in Energy from KU Leuven (2011–2013), graduating Cum Laude. Dr. Sewdien furthered their expertise with a Ph.D. in Electrical Power Engineering from Delft University of Technology (2016–2021), also graduating Cum Laude, during which they participated in an Erasmus+ Exchange Research Project in Electrical Engineering in 2013.

Professionally, Dr. Sewdien has built a robust career in the energy sector. They began as an International Trainee at TenneT (2013–2015) before advancing to the role of Policy Advisor for System Operations at TenneT (2015–2022), accumulating over eight years with the company. He served as SC C2 Secretary for CIGRE (2016–2020) and was a Member of the ELECTRA Editorial Board for CIGRE (2021–2023). Additionally, he worked as a European Power System Planner at Shell (2022–2024) and has been an EMEA Power Transmission System Expert at Microsoft in Amsterdam since March 2024. Since June 2021, Dr. Sewdien has also chaired the Education for Development Foundation, contributing to educational initiatives for over three years.
