Welcome to the 2025 Microwave/RF/Wireless Symposium! The jointly, organized by IEEE Long Island (LI) Section Microwave Theory and Techniques Chapter, IEEE LI Section Antennas and Propagation Chapter, and IEEE LI Section Signal Processing Society Chapter presents the following Distinguished Lecture (DL):
Abstract:
With every new generation of mobile communications, the scope of applications is enhanced with new technologies, some incremental and some disruptive. While odd generations (1G, 3G, 5G) introduced new concepts, 1G introduced mobile voice, 3G mobile data and 5G connecting massive IoT, even generations (2G & 4G) have stabilized and consolidated these technologies. The 2G and 3G focussed on human-to-human communication through voice and text, 4G shifted it to massive consumption of data, 5G driving Enhanced Mobile Broadband (eMBB) – pushing high data rates, Ultra Reliable Low Latency Communications (URLLC) – reducing latency and increase reliability and Massive Machine Type Communications (mMTC) - connecting massive Internet of Things (IoT) and industrial automation systems. ITU has identified 6G to deliver Massive, Ubiquitous & Immersive Communications, Integrated AI, Sensing and Communications ushering an era of Ubiquitous Intelligence, Sustainability, Security and connecting the unconnected and seamlessly fusing digital and physical world. New research developments in 5G and 6G will be explored in this talk with special emphasis on the role of RF in 5G & 6G.
