The UQ IEEE PES Student Branch Chapter warmly invites you to celebrate IEEE PES Day on Thursday, April 17th, from 4:00 PM to 6:30 PM.

This year’s event features a technical seminar and industry career session with three distinguished speakers from the power and energy sector:

Name: Daniel Eghbal
Position: Manager, Future Network Strategy

 

Biography:

Dr. Daniel Eghbal is the Manager Future Network Strategy at Energy Queensland. In his current role, Daniel leads a team that develops grid transformation strategies for Energex and Ergon Energy to support the energy transition towards net zero emissions and electrification of transport. 

Daniel is also a Senior Adjunct Research Fellow at The University of Queensland (UQ), the chair of CIGRE C6.47 Working Group Committee (DSO-customer interfaces for efficient system operation). Daniel is a Senior member of IEEE, Chair of IEEE QLD Power & Energy Society, and the recipient of 2022 IEEE Region 10 Outstanding Volunteer Award and 2022 IEEE PES Outstanding Power Engineer Award.

Name: Roly Jarrett
Position: A/Senior Grid Transformation Engineer, Energy Queensland

Biography:

Electrical Engineer with Energy Queensland in Sunshine Coast, Qld. Experience in Strategic Planning, Power Quality, Asset Management, Network Modelling, and Technology Development.

Previous 20 year career as business owner and network engineer in I.T. industry with voice and data comms experience.

Currently working as a Grid Transformation Engineer in the Future Network Strategy team at EQL.

Name: Keven Tie
Position: Power System Engineer, EPEC Group

Biography:

Keven Tie holds a Master of Engineering Science (Management) in Electrical Engineering from the University of Queensland. He is currently a Power Systems Engineer at EPEC Group, specializing in modeling, simulation, and compliance of power plants and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS).
With a strong focus on grid integration and regulatory compliance, Keven ensures renewable energy projects meet industry standards. Passionate about technical excellence and mentorship, he is eager to share insights from his transition from academia to industry, highlighting the challenges, lessons, and skills that have shaped his early career in power systems engineering.
