This session, presented by Guillermo Jiménez, will provide an overview
of the regulatory framework that governs the electricity and natural gas sectors in
Colombia. Participants will gain a clear understanding of the role and responsibilities
of the Comisión de Regulación de Energía y Gas (CREG) in ensuring an efficient,
reliable, and sustainable energy system.
The presentation will cover key regulatory principles, instruments, and current
challenges facing the sector, including the integration of renewable energy sources,
distributed generation, and the transition toward a low-carbon economy.
This session is particularly relevant for international participants and students seeking
to understand the regulatory foundations that support Colombia’s energy
development. A Q&A session will follow the presentation to encourage dialogue and

Biography:

Guillermo Jimenez Estevez is the current
Director of the Department of Electrical and
Electronic Engineering at Universidad de los
Andes in Colombia, with a distinguished
career in academia and the energy sector.
He specializes in power system planning
and operation, distributed generation,
smart grids, and electricity sector
regulation. His work also addresses the
impact of climate change on energy
infrastructure. With experience at both
Chilean and Colombian universities, he has
held leadership roles such as Director and
Deputy Director at the Energy Center of
FCFM, contributing to the advancement of
sustainable energy development in the
region.
