Functional Safety is a method to allow entry and access to industrial equipment not using OHSA Logout procedures.  It is generally seen in "Safety Gates", "Safety Mats" or other items that render machinery non-operational for minor maintenance.

This talk will reference standards ISO 13849 and IEC 62061

Agenda:

  1. Introduction to the Machine Safety Lifecycle
  2. Machine Safety as an integral part of business culture.
  3. Importance of picking a safety standard.
  4. Risk assessments are a must do. (And they are easier than you think)
  5. How to design your safety system to meet your required safety level. (SIL or PL)
