Innovating Energy Solutions for Tomorrow


This lecture cover the basics of cells and batteries and provide a design guide to developing safe and efficient batteries. Discussion starts with cells and critical characteristics of voltage, current, and temperature and will cover battery topologies and the requirements for the Battery Management System to allow safe charging and operation of the battery. Numerous examples will be shown and critical circuit elements will be reviewed.

Alan J Mindlin

Biography:

Alan J. Mindlin is the Senior Manager of Electrical Engineering Design for Military and Medical batteries at Inventus Power in Woodridge, Illinois. Alan holds a BSEE from Washington University in St. Louis, an MSEE from Purdue University, and an MBA from Washinton University in St. Louis. He has worked in telecommunications, embedded controllers, telematics, the internet of things, and batteries. He is also a Life Member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers and a member of the Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers, the International Council of System Engineers, the Project Management Institute, the Private Directors Association, and the Product Development and Management Association.
