BMSCE PES and SC - Wings of Code: Simulating UAVs with MATLAB
BMSCE IEEE PES & Sensors Council, in collaboration with BMSCE IEEE Student Branch, on account of PES Day 2025, will present
Wings of Code: Simulating UAVs with MATLAB
A Beginner-Friendly Hands-on Workshop
Date: 24th April 2025
Duration: 3 Hours
Hardware Requirements: None
This beginner-level hands-on workshop will introduce participants to the fundamentals of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) and their simulation using MATLAB. The session will be divided into three interactive parts:
Part 1: Understanding UAVs (45 min – 1 hour)
-
Introduction to UAVs: Definitions, classifications, fixed-wing vs. rotary-wing.
-
Key Components: Flight controller, IMU, GPS, communication systems, propulsion.
-
Applications: Surveillance, disaster management, delivery systems, military use.
-
Basics of Drone Path Planning: Importance, types, and a brief overview of algorithms like A*, Dijkstra, and RRT.
-
MATLAB for UAVs: Overview of the UAV toolbox and its applications in flight path analysis.
Part 2: MATLAB Hands-on – Drone Path Simulation (1 – 1.5 hours)
-
Waypoint Navigation: Defining 2D/3D coordinates and trajectory plotting.
-
Constraints: Altitude, speed limits, no-fly zones, and dynamic path changes.
-
Advanced Algorithms: Implementing optimal pathfinding and obstacle avoidance simulations.
Part 3: Q&A and the Future of UAVs (20 – 30 min)
-
Career Opportunities in UAV Technology.
-
Open discussion and interactive query session.
