Prof. Bo Huang of University of Hong Kong
Spatial Intelligence for Urban Environmental Sustainability
Biography:
Professor Bo Huang is a distinguished Chair Professor in our Department. Prior to joining us, he made significant contributions to the field of Geographic Information Science (GIScience) while working at The Chinese University of Hong Kong. His research interests include spatial statistics for land use modeling, image fusion for environmental monitoring, and spatial optimization for sustainable planning. Prof. Huang is renowned for developing the Geographically and Temporally Weighted Regression (GTWR) model, a widely adopted method for big spatiotemporal data analysis. He currently serves as an Associate Editor for the International Journal of Geographical Information Science and was the Editor-in-Chief of the three-volume book “Comprehensive Geographic Information Systems” (Elsevier, 2017). Among his numerous accolades, Professor Huang has received the Chang Jiang Chair Professorship and a Gold Medal at the International Exhibition of Inventions Geneva 2021.
Prof. Mei-Po Kwan of The Chinese University of Hong Kong
GeoAl for Environmental Exposure and Sustainable City
Biography:
Mei-Po Kwan is a geographer known for her research contributions in Geographic Information Science, and human geography, particularly as they apply to time geography and human mobility. She is the Choh-Ming Li Professor of Geography and Resource Management at The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), Director of the Institute of Space and Earth Information Science (ISEIS) of CUHK, Director of the Institute of Future Cities of CUHK, and Head of Chung Chi College of CUHK.
Prof. Bin Jiang of Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou)
MapGEN: Harnessing Living Structure and AI for the Creation of Realistic 3D Models in Urban Development
Biography:
Dr. Bin Jiang is Professor of Urban Informatics in Urban Governance and Design Thrust at The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou) (HKUST(GZ)). He received his PhD in GeoInformatics from Utrecht University, the Netherlands in 1996, and conducted ten-month Postdoctoral Research at Free University of Berlin, Germany. He has been Professor of GeoInformatics at University of Gävle, Sweden since April 2007. From February 2006 to September 2008, he worked as Assistant Professor at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. He became Docent at the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH at Stockholm) in November 2005. From January 2000 to October 2005, he was Senior Lecturer at University of Gävle, Sweden. Prior to that and during January 1997 to December 1999, he was Senior Research Fellow at Center for Advanced Spatial Analysis of University College London, UK. He used to be Visiting Professor of the University of Vienna, Austria (2016), Tokyo Institute of Technology, Japan (2012), University of Sassari, Italy (2012), and Louis Pasteur University, France (2005). His research interests center on georeferenced big data, geospatial analysis, and AI/deep learning, not only for better understanding city structure and dynamics, but also for effectively transforming cities to be living or more living towards a sustainable planet.
