IEEE MANGALORE SUBSECTION EXECOM MEETING
Execom Meeting IEEE Mangalore Sub-Section
The meeting was held at the Board room AJInstitute of Engineering andTechnology with Principal and active IEEE Mangalore Sub section (MSS) member Dr. Shantharama Rai welcoming the members. The IEEE MSS Chairman Dr. Niranjan N Chiplunkar welcomed the gathering with gratitude towards the Director and Principal for having made arrangements for the meeting and went on to address the action items taken up. The MSS website, was released for public distribution. It was created and maintained by SAC Dr Ujjwal Verma The meeting concluded with a proposal to petition for a new student branch in 2018 at 6:00 PM.

Last Meeting Follow-up
- Request from MITE Moodabidri reg the “Second IEEE Conference DISCOVER 2018” was discussed in detail. Many thanks to the inputs from Dr. Mohit who drafted a checklist of items to be done/ delivered by the host institute below given corrections etc. were suggested to the draft which needs to be sent to them by July 1 and an acknowledgement of compliance to it by them in writing at the earliest possible date (15 July 2017), as another institution SJEC seems to be keen on hosting it for 2018 else 2019. Many corrections were suggested in the draft checklist and lastly it was concluded that as in the previous year the major sponsor logo and name needs to be put in DISCOVER and all IEEE MSS events that ensue for the year 2018-19.
- The proposal of SJEC to host I2CONECCT 2018 was approved with a change that the projects be selected for UG and PG streams under circuit branches for the fields of best impact in Humanitarian and or Innovation.
- Student detail aggregation: Details of student branch to be populated in a template shared at the earliest. Student details as contact etc. shall be got from the branch councilors post Aug or Collegere opening whichever is earlier.
- Regarding TISP: Mr. Manju Kiran from AJIET was invited for further discussion and it was agreed that the day would start at 9:00 AM with an inaugural address by the DDPU followed by Session 1 by Prof Suryanarayana on Elements of Physics in Engineering and Session 2 by Mr Praveen Kalbhavi on Career Choices and orienting oneself for industry demands. Post lunch Dr. Pallavi shall take up an ice breaking session followed by Session 4 by Dr Annappa on ICT for content delivery etc. The feedback would be solicited orally and via hard copies followed by placing the vote of gratitude by the Chairman Dr Niranjan Chiplunkar. The activities of the day shall conclude with the national Anthem at 4:30 PM
- Newsletter to be done at the earliest possible time for R10 website and activity calendar.
- Dates to be finalized for
- August 2017 - IoT workshop at NITK under Dr. Annappa.
- September 2017 - Research conclave at MIT. Dr. Manohar Pai.
New Discussions
- WiE Affinity Group Creation Rekha Bhandarkar has come forward to start a Woman in Engineering (WiE) Affinity group at the IEEE Mangalore Sub Section by petition which necessitates 12 IEEE members (other than students) to opt for the membership by paying extra dues. Dr. Pallavi Mane and Miss Ashwini being current members with WiE memberships have agreed to sign the petition and new members from SJEC to be nominated as well.
- Website: Niranjan Chiplunkar proposed creation of a separate IEEE MSS Website – various available domain names were discussed and proposed its purchase for Rs 4500.
- Budget approval of TISP: A budget of Rs. 15000 has been proposed towards expenses for conducting TISP by the IEEE MSS towards expenditure on Badges for volunteers, Banners and certificates, Phone bills and promotional charges towards postage etc, travel to and from DDPI, etc., Travel allowance of participants and Miscellanea.
General Notes
Further agreed that logo and name of Moog India Pvt Ltd. The major sponsor for 2016 IEEE DISCOVER Conference needs to be put in all IEEE MSS events that ensue for the year 2018-19
Next Meeting Agenda Items
- The forth coming ExeCom meeting shall be held on either July 29 on the day of TISP at 2:00PM, AT AJIET Mangalore.
- Branch Councillors need to furnish details regarding the number of IEEE student members and their contacts (e-mail and Phone) and membership IDs to the Web master Dr. Manjunath K N to update the Google group of contacts of Students and Dr. Ujjwal Verma to take the lead in designing the website.
- IEEE day celebrations at Robosoft Udupi on Oct3 and other student activities in Sept. to be discussed.
- Logistics and organization of DISCOVER 2018 to be discussed
