On April 22nd at 14:00, the roundtable forum titled "Exploring the Development and Opportunities of Smart Grids" was successfully held by the IEEE PES North China Electric Power University Chapter. Professor Yu Pei from the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at North China Electric Power University was invited to attend the event, engaging in discussions with more than 20 master’s graduate students on the cutting-edge trends in the industry.

At the beginning of the event, Liu Yanxiu, the IEEE PES DAY 2025 Ambassador, delivered an opening address. She introduced that over the past year since its establishment, the IEEE PES North China Electric Power University Chapter has evolved into a crucial platform for student academic exchanges. The event, focusing on the theme of "smart grids," not only aligns with the national energy transition strategy but also provides young scholars with a window to understand industry dynamics.

This forum focused on technological breakthroughs and career development in the field of smart grids, aiming to help students grasp industry opportunities through academic exchanges. During the event, Professor Yu Pei from the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at North China Electric Power University systematically elaborated on the current development status of smart grids, drawing upon field investigation experiences. Taking the practical case of leading a team to the Fujian Power Supply Company of State Grid as the entry point, she shared the technological breakthroughs such as the development of new energy in State Grid and the application of drones. Moreover, from the perspective of a student counselor, she guided students to grasp the research directions and employment opportunities. She also provided professional guidance regarding the confusions raised by students, such as "the construction of interdisciplinary abilities" and "the selection of employment directions". She emphasized that the smart grid field is in urgent need of composite talents who not only understand theories but also possess engineering thinking, and she encouraged students to actively participate in scientific research projects to enhance their practical skills.

The participating students expressed that the forum not only broadened their academic horizons but also clarified their career path planning. In the future, the IEEE PES North China Electric Power University Chapter will continue to organize a series of activities to help young students ride the wave of the energy transition.
