AI Guidance: A Look at Implementing AI in Schools and Classrooms

Moderated by Sarah K. Howorth, Ph. D., BCBA-D Associate Professor of Special Education, Special Education Program Coordinator, Director: PEERS® Lab @ UMaine. 

Speakers: 

Nicole Davis is the Emerging Technology Digital Specialist for the Maine Department of Education, where she has been supporting the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) into classrooms across the state of Maine for the past two and half years. With over 20 years of experience as a math and science educator in Maine and North Carolina, Nicole has a deep understanding of the diverse needs of students and educators. Through her role, she has led numerous presentations and workshops statewide, equipping Maine schools with the tools and strategies needed to effectively implement AI in education across various grade levels. She resides in Damariscotta with her dog Luna, and enjoys spending time in nature.

Matthew T. Marino, Ph.D. is a professor at the University of Central Florida. His research involves technology, executive function, and Universal Design for Learning. Dr. Marino is a Co-PI of the National Center for Innovation, Design, and Digital Learning where he coordinates the
tech alliance for Maine, Idaho, and Washington. He also leads a team as principal Investigator at Inclusive Education Services, which provides independent living and vocational preparation for individuals with
Intellectual Disabilities aged 18 – 28.
