IEEE KENYA SB EXCOM TRAINING BY R8 SAC
Training for student branch excom members organised by SAC Kenya team to be conducted by the R8 SAC team on the following topics:

IEEE R8 Leadership Structure – to help attendees gain a clear understanding of the regional governance and how it connects with local activities.

Funding Avenues – for Student Branches (SBs), Student Branch Chapters (SBCs), and our local SAC. This is critical for enabling impactful initiatives.

Organizational Unit (OU) Vitality – guidance on the range of activities and any recommended structural models from R8 SAC that support long-term engagement and sustainability of SBs.

Upcoming Travel Grants and Volunteer Opportunities (2025) – to inform individuals on how they can participate in conferences and other initiatives supported by IEEE.

Abdulrahman of R8 SAC
R8 Structure and Funding
The speaker will provide an overview of the Region 8 Student Activities Committee (R8 SAC) structure to help the Student Branch Executive Committee (SB ExCom) better understand the various subcommittees and their roles. The session will also highlight funding opportunities available through R8 SAC, including the funding cycles and eligibility criteria. Additionally, the speaker will cover travel grants offered by Region 8 for major events such as the Student and Young Professional (SYP) Congress and other IEEE conferences, outlining the application process and offering tips on how to submit a strong, competitive application.
Biography:
Abdulrahman Mohammed is a Master’s student at the Faculty of Engineering, Cairo University, where he obtained his Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Power Engineering. He is also an Electrical Quality Engineer at ELSEWEDY ELECTRIC PSP, a leading Company in the Field of Power Plants. Abdulrahman currently serves as the Regional Student Representative of Region 8 and is a member of the MGA SAC. For the last 2 years, He served as the IEEE Region 8 Local Student Paper Contest Coordinator and joined the MGA Awards judging as a member of the R8 SAC CAR AdHoc Committee. He was the Vice-Chair of the IEEE R8 NASYP 2023. He served in SAC, YP, and SIGHT Egypt and is currently the MD Officer. He has won many MGA Awards with his student branch.

Student Branch Vitality
This session will delve into the key pillars of Student Branch (SB) vitality—ranging from impactful technical activities and strategic membership drives to inclusive and enjoyable social events that keep members actively engaged. The discussion will focus on how the Executive Committee (ExCom) can create meaningful experiences that resonate with members’ academic, professional, and personal interests. By aligning activities with members' needs and ensuring consistent value delivery, the SB can foster a strong sense of community and purpose. Ultimately, the goal is to equip the ExCom with strategies to encourage member participation, increase retention, and build a culture where members are proud and confident to renew their IEEE membership each year.
Biography:
Ala is an AI Engineer, currently working as the Lead Data Scientist at DeepVolt and technical consultant at Oratio Technologies. Ala joined IEEE in 2020, volunteered in various positions most notably as the IEEE ESPRIT Student Branch Chair, as well as the chair of the Tunisian SYP Congress 2022 Chair.
