Tomorrow's 6G networks promise the ability to perceive their surroundings with radar‑like functionalities. This tutorial traces that journey, showing how today's 5G Standalone (SA) positioning features can evolve into integrated sensing and communications (ISAC) systems. We begin by revisiting familiar 5G building blocks and demonstrate how new waveform design lets them carry both user data and environmental cues. From there, we explore the trade‑off between spectral efficiency and sensing accuracy, revealing how machine learning models trained on channel state spectrograms push detection and recognition well beyond classical signal processing.
