Blueprints to Interfaces : UI UX design for Engineers
The IEEE Robotics and Automation Society Student Branch Chapter, successfully conducted a hands-on workshop titled “Blueprints to Interfaces: UI/UX Design for Engineers” on Thursday, 19th September 2024, at Beta Hall.
The workshop aimed to bridge the gap between engineering and design thinking by introducing students to the core principles of User Interface (UI) and User Experience (UX) design. The session was facilitated by an experienced resource person well-versed in UI/UX design practices relevant to engineering applications.
The workshop began with a formal inaugural session, followed by an engaging presentation on the fundamentals of UI/UX, including usability heuristics, user journey mapping, wireframing, and visual design principles. Students were introduced to popular design tools and collaborative platforms used in the industry for prototyping and feedback gathering.
Through interactive demos and real-world design examples, participants were encouraged to think critically about the interface design process and its impact on end-user satisfaction. They also explored how engineers can integrate UI/UX practices into their product development life cycle.
The session concluded with a Q&A segment where students clarified their doubts and shared their design ideas. The organizing committee honored the resource person with a memento in appreciation of his valuable contribution. A group photo with the organizing team and participants marked the end of a successful learning experience.
The event received highly positive feedback, with students expressing their interest in exploring UI/UX design further. This initiative served as a foundation for nurturing creative thinking and enhancing the product design capabilities of engineering students.
