Welcome to IEEE Seminar on “Ensuring Stability in Converter-dominated Grids - A TSO Perspective”

By Dr. Oscar Lennerhag, Head of Power Quality and System Studies at Swedish TSO Svenska Kraftnät

Date: June 12, 2025

Time: 14:00-16:00 CET

Refreshment will be provided.

Abstract:

The transition toward converter-dominated power systems introduces new stability challenges that traditional methods struggle to address. This talk presents key insights from Svenska kraftnät’s ongoing work to assess and manage emerging stability issues in a rapidly evolving grid. Emphasis is placed on impedance-based methods for evaluating converter-driven instability and the impact of control parameter tuning on system behaviour.

The talk will also provide an outlook on the future role of grid-forming converters in the Swedish power system.

Bios of Speaker

Dr. Oscar Lennerhag is currently serving as Head of Power Quality and System Studies at Swedish TSO Svenska kraftnät, where he leads a specialist team dedicated to ensuring system stability and power quality as the share of converters increases.

He holds a PhD in Electrical Engineering and has deep expertise in modelling and studies related to integration of power electronics. In addition, he has actively contributed to several international working groups and technical brochures focused on harmonics and converter stability.
