Topic: Strengthening Louisiana homes through “Wind Mitigations and Fortified Homes” and the legislation.

The presentation will cover the need for resilient housing under Wind Mitigation and Fortified Construction. It will cover Current Challenges, Proposed Legislative Solutions and Expected Outcomes and Benefits.

Conclusion:

What to expect the outcome will have on our future insurance cost savings and possible tax credit due to home damage mitigation program.

Biography:

Ashley van der Meulen, has been inspecting since 2001 and has completed over 15,000 inspections.  He is the vice-chairman for the Louisiana State Board of Home Inspectors and the 1st Congressional District Representative for the Louisiana State Board of Home Inspectors with whom he is also an in-field trainer.  Ashley is a certified stucco inspector, an infrared thermographer, a moisture analyst, Fortified evaluator and a wind mitigation surveyor.

Ross of Allstate Insurance’s National and Regional advisory boards and is a board member of the Independent Insurance Agents of Greater New Orleans.

The presentation will cover wind mitigation and Fortified home construction requirements for residential properties.  It will illustrate the improved wind protection advantages gained from recent Louisiana building code advances on up to the state’s highest recognized level, Fortified.

Biography:

Ross Shales has 29 years’ experience as a property insurance agent, currently with Expert Insurance Services.  He has been a real estate continuing education instructor for 17 years.  He served on Allstate Insurance’s National and Regional advisory boards and is a board member of the Independent Insurance Agents of Greater New Orleans.
