Biography:

Dr. Ahmed Medra

Principal DSP Engineer, Huawei Technologies Canada

Dr. Ahmed Medra is the Optical DSP Team Lead at Huawei Technologies Canada, where he leads cutting-edge research and development in digital signal processing for optical transmission systems. His work spans a broad range of advanced DSP algorithms, including adaptive filtering, clock and carrier recovery, constellation shaping, single-carrier and Nyquist sub-carrier signaling, as well as the design of pilot and control sub-carriers (channels). His expertise drives innovation in modern optical networks, optimizing performance and efficiency for next-generation communication technologies.

With a strong foundation in coherent DSP transceiver design, Dr. Medra has contributed to high-performance solutions for long-haul and metro applications, including point-to-point and point-to-multipoint architectures. His technical leadership has led to multiple patent applications, reinforcing advancements in optical DSP.

Dr. Medra earned his B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees from Alexandria University and completed his Ph.D. at McMaster University, Canada, followed by postdoctoral research at the University of British Columbia (UBC). Throughout his career, he has remained at the forefront of DSP advancements, pushing the boundaries of high-speed communications and signal processing technologies.
