Abstract:

In maritime defence applications, the role of Sonar is evolving as equipment suppliers and defence forces transition from technologies which are traditionally operated by skilled crew members and require further effort to facilitate deeper tactical analysis, into a world where autonomous vehicles and onboard low power, high performance computing allows for ever more advanced technical solutions. The presenters are involved in providing Sonar processing software which enables Uncrewed Surface Vehicles (USV), alongside other naval defence craft, to detect, track and classify surface and subsurface biologics and vehicles. This presentation will break down the components of a USV equipped with an Autonomous Sonar Processing (ASP) system and explore how AI can be leveraged to further gain a competitive edge in autonomous applications.
