Ashwin Rai of Thermo Fisher Scientific

Biography:

Speaker HeadshotAshwin Rai is a seasoned data science leader with over 16 years of experience in real-world data (RWD) analytics, machine learning, and AI applications in healthcare. As Director of Data Science & Advanced Analytics at Thermo Fisher Scientific, he leads global AI initiatives within the PPD Evidera Real-World Data & Scientific Solutions group.

His expertise includes predictive modeling, patient stratification, health outcomes research, and social media analytics, all aimed at generating real-world insights and supporting data-driven decisions. Ashwin enables top pharmaceutical companies—including Pfizer, Takeda, Sanofi, GSK, and AstraZeneca—through scalable, cloud-based RWE platforms.

Previously, he led data science efforts at PRA Health Sciences and EPSi (Allscripts), advancing clinical trial design, hospital analytics, and NLP-based insights. Ashwin is a frequent speaker at international forums including PHUSE, ISPOR, the FDA Innovation Challenge, SCDM Japan, and the Japanese Society of Computational Statistics. He currently serves as Co-Chair of the PHUSE Real-World Evidence Working Group and Member Engagement Co-Chair for ISPOR’s RWE SIG. His work has been published in Value in Health, ESC Heart Failure, and BMC Medical Research Methodology.

He holds a BE from VTU, India, and an MSc in Predictive Analytics from Northwestern University. Ashwin is a Senior Member of IEEE.
