Project Summary:

Project Title: Smart Recommender System for Research Discovery

Objective:
To develop an AI-powered recommender system that assists students and researchers in efficiently discovering relevant academic publications by analyzing user-provided inputs (paper title, abstract, and keywords).

Technical Highlights:

  • Dataset: ~113,000 arXiv research papers.
  • Recommendation Algorithm: Content-based filtering using cosine similarity.
  • Embedding Model: all-MiniLM-L6-v2 (lightweight, scalable, and semantically rich).
  • Technology Stack: Python, Scikit-learn, Pandas, NumPy, Google Colab.

Outcomes & Benefits:

  • Strengthened TU Chemnitz IEEE SB’s engagement in cross-border AI research collaborations.
  • Fostered practical application of AI/ML techniques for educational tools.
  • Enabled international networking and interdisciplinary teamwork experience for participating members.
  • The developed solution has future potential for integration into academic libraries and research platforms.

Impact on IEEE Student Branch:

This activity contributes directly to the branch’s mission of providing members with opportunities for:

  • Hands-on technical skill development in artificial intelligence.
  • Participation in international research and innovation communities.
  • Enhancing IEEE’s visibility and involvement in European collaborative projects.
