IEEE Signal Processing Society Day Celebration @ UPES

Organized by IEEE SPS Student Branch Chapter, University of Petroleum & Energy Studies (UPES), Dehradun

The IEEE Signal Processing Society (SPS) Day Celebration at UPES Dehradun was a vibrant, day-long online event organized by the IEEE SPS Student Branch Chapter to promote awareness, learning, and engagement in the field of signal processing. Held in virtual mode via Microsoft Teams and the Scribble platform, the event brought together students, faculty, and guest speakers to celebrate innovation, knowledge-sharing, and community spirit.

The celebration commenced with an inaugural keynote by Dr. Laxman Prasad, Former Advisor at the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India, who shared inspiring insights on the evolution of signal processing and its future through student-led research.

This was followed by a unique FunTech Scribble Game, designed to creatively integrate signal processing terminology into a drawing-guessing format. The interactive activity energized participants, encouraged peer bonding, and made technical concepts more approachable and memorable.

The final session featured a compelling technical talk by Dr. Sagar Deep Deb, Postdoctoral Fellow at IIT Bombay, on AI-driven Biomedical Image Segmentation and Classification. He explored how deep learning models such as CNNs and U-Nets are transforming medical diagnostics, while also highlighting research challenges and motivating students to pursue interdisciplinary research. The event reinforced the IEEE SPS mission of advancing signal processing through education, engagement, and innovation.
