Dr Hajar Abedi of Gold Sentinel Inc

This talk explores the transformative potential of AI-integrated radar systems in long-term care (LTC) settings. Through ElephasCare—a privacy-preserving, non-contact monitoring platform—we demonstrate how AI-powered radar technology can autonomously track residents’ daily activities, detect falls, and monitor changes in baselines without the use of cameras or wearables. The system supports timely interventions, reduces staff burden, and enhances overall resident safety and well-being. We will also discuss challenges in deployment at scale, technical innovations in AI-powered radar systems and lessons learned from real-world implementations in LTC environments.

Biography:

Dr. Hajar Abedi is the co-founder and Chief Science Officer at GoldSentintel, where she leads the development of AI-powered radar systems for healthcare and aging-in-place applications. She holds a PhD and postdoctoral fellowship from the University of Waterloo, with over eight years of experience in radar system design and AI integration. Dr. Abedi has authored over 60 publications and patents and received multiple international awards for her contributions to radar and healthcare technology. She is also serving as the IEEE AP-S Young Professional Ambassador for 2025.
