This talk is presented by Paul H. Carr, PhD and IEEE Life Fellow, author of the book: "Containing Climate Change to Save Us."

Paul's abstract for the talk: "My involvement in green technology started 50 years ago. While waiting hours to fill my gas tank, I realized we had to toil against oil dependence. In 1979, I installed green solar hot-water heaters on my roof. In 1988, NASA climate scientist Dr James Hansen testified to Congress that increasing carbon  dioxide emissions from burning fossil fuels are warming our planet via the greenhouse effect. This increased my resolve to toil so I wouldn’t boil!

Solar photoelectric panels, which were prohibitively expensive in 1979, have become the most economical way to generate green electricity, together with wind. Emerging 24/7 technologies include green Hydrogen, deep geothermal, small modular fission reactors. Commonwalth Fusion Aytems of Devins, MA, has received $2 billion to prove the commeriail feasibility of producing electricity with no nuclear residue by early 2030.

Billion dollar weather extremes are increasing much more rapidly than in 1980.  As shown in my book “Containing Climate Change to Save Us (2025),” new technology, caring theology, and enabling economics could save ecology."

Paul H. Carr, BS, MS, MIT; PhD Brandeis U, IEEE Life Fellow, GS-15, led the Air Force Research Laboratory’s development of the Surface Acoustic Wave (SAW) components used in radar and cell phones. He has published over 90 scientific papers and was awarded 10 patents. Retiring in 1995, he debated  “Are Humans Warming our Climate?”  and organized the influential Insitute of Religion In an Age of Science Conference, “The Wicked Problem of Climate Change.” He has authored Loves My Life: Spirituality, Science, Family (2023) and  “Containing Climate Change to Save Us (2025).
