Reflections on academic excellence
This talk will reflect on possible ways of pursuing excellence in the components of academic engagement, namely teaching and research. Since professional aspects such as continuous learning and reflection, motivation, effective communication, integrity and networking bear on academic excellence, the need for continuous professional development will form a central part of the consideration. The significant role professional societies can play in this development will be discussed.

The art of writing technical papers
This talk covers the general guidelines of technical paper writing both for conferences and journals. Best practices for compiling and presenting research results will be explored for the benefit of young researchers. The choice of a right journal for manuscript submission, and ways of responding to reviewers’ comments will be discussed. Ethical aspects of writing will also be highlighted.
