This presentation will introduce participants to the underground transmission system project design sequence as related to electrical cable.  

  1. Participants will be able to recognize the critical steps in underground transmission project design.  
  2. Participants will be able to comprehend the steps required to successfully complete a design project.
  3. Participants will be able to create a check list for project management.

 

Biography:

 Mr. Nijam Robert Uddin, P.E., F.NSPE is a registered Professional Engineer in the states of Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, and Pennsylvania with 50 years of engineering experience in designing utility electric systems, including 21 years as an engineer for Toledo Edison.  He recently retired from Commonwealth Associates, Inc., of Jackson, Michigan (CAI).  At CAI he held the position of Senior Underground Systems Engineer for 21 years.  He is a nationally recognized expert in the design of underground electric power systems and has served on IEEE committees related to this topic.  He is a Senior Life Member of IEEE.  In his work with the IEEE Insulated Conductors Committee (ICCC) he presently chairs a working group that recently published an IEEE Guide - IEEE Std. 1727 "Working Procedures for Underground Transmission Circuits with Induced Voltages."  He is a Life Member and Fellow of he National Society of Professional Engineers and was the Central Region Director (2021-23).  He is a Past President and Fellow of the Michigan Society of Professional Engineers and was the Michigan Representative to the NSPE House of Delegates.  He has been married to Beverly for 50 years and has two children and five grandchildren.
