Expert: Dr. Richa Priyadarshani, Communication and Computer Engineering Department at LNMIIT, Jaipur

Title: Towards Jamming-Resilient 6G: Securing THz and OWC Technologies

Date: 18th July

Time: 5 PM to 6 PM

Venue: Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee, Uttarakhand, India

Abstract- As the vision of 6G takes shape, technologies such as terahertz (THz) communication and optical wireless communication (OWC)—including free-space optics (FSO) and visible light communication (VLC)—are emerging as key enablers of ultra-fast, high-capacity networks. These extreme bandwidth communication (EBC) systems promise transformative applications, from space-based connectivity to mission-critical e-Health and autonomous systems. However, their directional nature and high-frequency operation make them inherently susceptible to jamming and signal disruption. This talk focuses on the growing threat of jamming in THz and OWC systems and the pressing need to design resilient architectures for secure 6G networks. We will examine the nature of jamming attacks specific to these technologies, highlight real-world vulnerabilities, and explore a range of defense mechanisms including spatial diversity, frequency agility, hybrid beamforming, and intelligent reconfigurable surfaces. By bridging theoretical insights with practical countermeasures, this session aims to equip researchers, engineers, and policymakers with a clear understanding of how to fortify next-generation wireless links against malicious interference—ensuring both speed and security in the 6G era.

Biography- Dr. Richa Priyadarshani is an Assistant Professor in the Communication and Computer Engineering Department at LNMIIT, Jaipur. She holds a Ph.D. in Free-Space Optical (FSO) Communication from the Department of Electrical Engineering at IIT Delhi and an M.E. in Wireless Communication from Birla Institute of Technology Mesra. Prior to her doctoral work, she served as an Assistant Professor at Amity University, India, for over two years. Before joining LNMIIT, she worked as a postdoctoral researcher at KAUST (King Abdullah University of Science and Technology), where she focused on non-terrestrial FSO systems using High-Altitude Platforms (HAPs) for secure global connectivity. Her research interests span Optical Wireless Communication (OWC)/Optical Satellite Communication (OSC) for 6G and beyond, Visible Light Communication (VLC) for e-health and smart city applications, MIMO systems, channel modeling, and signal processing for wireless communication. She is also actively exploring emerging topics such as Reconfigurable Intelligent Surfaces (RIS), quantum communication, quantum internet in space, and design of secure Extreme bandwidth communication systems (specifically OWC and THz). Dr. Priyadarshani has served as a TPC member for several leading IEEE conferences, including VTC, PIMRC, and Globecom, and continues to contribute as a reviewer for top-tier journals and conferences such as IEEE TCOM, TWC, Globecom, ICC, and Optics Express. She is a member of IEEE, Women in Optical Wireless Communication (OWC), and Women in 6G. Outside of academia, she enjoys singing, cooking, and traveling, and proudly balances her professional pursuits with being a mother of two.
