Research Progress and Application Prospects of Fiber Optic Distributed Acoustic Sensing Technology
Distributed fiber optic sensing (DFOS), which utilizes optical fiber as a transmission medium combined with sensing capabilities, offers unique advantages including high sensitivity, large-scale coverage, and high resolution. In recent years, DFOS has garnered significant research interest across numerous application fields and is advancing towards industrialization. Notably, the research and development of specialized sensing optical fibers and their corresponding distributed sensing technologies have become the research hotspot. This report reviews the progress in backscattering-enhanced optical fibers, acoustic pressure sensitive optical fiber cables, and their distributed acoustic sensing (DAS) technologies, encompassing design principles, theoretical models, and fabrication techniques. Furthermore, key technologies for high-performance DAS, such as sensitivity enhancement, phase noise suppression, and measurement range extension, are discussed. Finally, typical engineering applications in geological exploration, infrastructure health monitoring, and submarine detection are presented along with future prospects.
