R1 Western NY Area - Sections Leadership Get Together

Tuesday August 19, 2025. at the Radisson Hotel in Corning, NY. 

Hi everyone.  Per the announcement on this topic at the R1/R2 meeting back in June 2025, I have set up a meeting for representatives from the WNY Sections (i.e., Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse, Binghamton, and Ithaca) to meet!

• Please register below as soon as possible
  • ...as the Radisson Hotel needs a head count by MONDAY, JULY 28
  • Some of you already told me you are coming, but I still need an official record

• Send a couple of people from your section (we will do this earlier next year and on a weekend)
• 2 people from 5 Western New York Sections is 10 people, plus a couple others from the region leadership, should make for a nice event.

• At the meeting, we would talk about topics that show up in our local sections:
  • Everyone meets everyone!
  • WNY Section membership and leadership succession
  • What does a WNY section look like?  Chapters, Affinity Groups, Elections, vTools, Training, IEEE Conferences, etc.
  • WNY Promotional activities (ie, What do other sections do)
  • Finance (ie, What do other WNY sections do)
  • WNY Section Activities (What do other sections do and how can other sections copy)
  • Building WNY student activities and membership (YP, etc) (ie, What do other sections do)
  • Encourage more talent and expertise to join as executives at all levels in our WNY Sections...How?
  • Can WNY sections collaborate/leverage/learn from each other? Joint Activity?
  • Include the recent past WNY Section Chairs to attend the meeting?
  • Any other topic(s)

We have a Video Conferencing Meeting Owl and will try to set up streaming.  The link will eventually show up in this vTools Event Notice.  Keep in mind, the entire point of this event is for people to meet in person.  

• TENATIVE AGENDA
  • TUE 3-7 pm meet and talk (coffee, etc.)
  • TUE 7-9 pm dinner with everyone
  • WED 9-11 am Breakfast.  Meeting over after this.  I plan on taking a tour of the Corning Glass Museum.

• COST
  • My budget will offset costs.  IEEE will pay the entire bill (we have to do it this way for tax-exempt purposes).  Later, the region will "parse the request to the sections for their contribution", which should only be around $210, based on 12-15 people attending. 
  • Price includes the hotel room, meeting room rental, dinner room rental, breakfast room rental, food, and gratuity.

  • "I would like to offer to the sections via your events to those sections that did not receive the banner/s to get a banner should they participate in your event. Note that I will need to know well ahead of time what your plans are for a great sign off!!"
