Topic:

“Big Data and ME"

Manufacturing Execution (ME) makes a lot of promises to industry. By using the “big data” techniques of data mining coupled with predictive algorithms and artificial intelligence, manufactures can optimize everything from their supply chains to resources and maintenance. New plants can be constructed with systems, software, and networking capabilities to achieve these goals.

However. Most facilities on the U.S. Gulf Coast have been in operation for decades. Automation at these facilities started as legacy systems that are often evolved rather than replaced.  Implementation of enterprise resource planning (ERP) has been in a patchwork fashion to collect data electronically. Most electrical and major mechanical information at older facilities still exists on paper. Implementing a modern manufacturing execution system, and integrating it with existing infrastructure presents challenges.

The final segment of this presentation will walk through an example to illustrate how batch tracing/inventory tracking could work in a process facility.
