The Southeast Michigan Young Professionals Affinity Group is hosting a member speaker series meant to highlight the projects, research, or interests of our members! Our fourth session will be presented by member Venugopal Thirakanam in September on the topic of the Evolution of AI and Its Embedded Role in ADAS.

Artificial Intelligence has rapidly evolved from a research concept into a driving force behind modern mobility. This session will trace AI’s journey—from its early rule-based beginnings to today’s embedded AI systems that power real-time decision-making in vehicles. We will examine how advancements in processing architectures, from microcontrollers to high-performance SoCs, have enabled increasingly complex AI models to operate efficiently within the constraints of automotive systems. Through real-world ADAS examples—such as lane-keeping assistance, driver monitoring systems, and pedestrian detection—we will demonstrate how embedded AI enhances safety, comfort, and user experience. The session will conclude with a forward look at how emerging AI trends will shape the next generation of autonomous and intelligent mobility solutions.

We hope you can join us!
