Overview
Sustainovate Hackathon 2025 is an exclusive student-focused innovation challenge designed to harness the creativity and technical skills of college students in addressing global sustainability challenges. Aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the hackathon will encourage participants to design impactful prototypes and solutions in areas such as Affordable and Clean Energy (SDG 7), Responsible Consumption and Production (SDG 12), Sustainable Cities and Communities (SDG 11), and Climate Action (SDG 13).

  • Participants: 500 students (forming ~125 teams).

  • Team Composition: 4 members per team, with at least 2 girls in every team.

  • Domains: 5 sustainability domains with predefined use cases.

  • Awards: In each domain, Winner, Runner-Up 1, and Runner-Up 2 will receive trophies, medals, and certificates.

  • Certificates: All participants will be awarded certificates of participation.

Objectives

  1. To foster innovation and problem-solving among students for real-world sustainability challenges.

  2. To empower women in STEM by ensuring 50%+ representation and leadership opportunities.

  3. To develop 100+ scalable prototypes/research ideas aligned with sustainability goals.

  4. To promote diversity, collaboration, and socially responsible engineering practices.

Expected Outcomes

  • Creation of innovative, technology-enabled solutions with potential for real-world impact.

  • Strong engagement of women in engineering innovation through inclusive participation rules.

  • Strengthened teamwork, leadership, and interdisciplinary collaboration among students.

  • Recognition of excellence through awards and widespread encouragement via participation certificates.

Impact
Sustainovate Hackathon 2025 will engage 500 college students in collaborative innovation, ensure gender-inclusive participation, and generate over 100 student-led sustainable solutions. The initiative will strengthen women’s visibility in engineering, inspire future-ready leaders, and contribute meaningfully to the vision of engineering a sustainable future.
