Celebrate IEEE Day with us at a joint networking event hosted by the Northern Nevada Young Professionals and the University of Nevada IEEE Student Chapter!

IEEE Day is about connecting engineers across generations, industries, and disciplines to share ideas and build community. This year, our focus is on membership development—highlighting the many benefits of IEEE, from scholarships and career advancement to global networking and lifelong learning.

This event will feature a small panel discussion on the value of IEEE membership, followed by opportunities to connect with scholarship committee members, industry professionals, and hiring managers. Whether you are a student, a young professional, or an established engineer, you’ll walk away with new insights, contacts, and opportunities.

IEEE Standards: How, Where to Start, and a Few Switchgear Standards Committee Highlights

Biography:

Doug Edwards is employed by Siemens Industries, Inc currently serving as Principal Solutions and Standards Engineer.  Doug is a licensed professional engineer, licensed electrical contractor, and project management professional. He is active with various industry standards activities of IEEE-SA, serving with the IEEE SA Standards Board, IEEE SA Switchgear Standards Committee Immediate Past Chair, active with the IEEE Power & Energy Society Technical Council, and IEEE SA Quantities, Units, and Letter Symbols (QUSCom) Standards Committee Immediate Past Chair. He has served as a leader for various IEEE switchgear standards working groups. Doug is active with NEMA and with Accredited Standards Committee (ASC) C37. He is a graduate of North Carolina State University with a degree in electrical engineering.

Applications of Circuit Breakers in Extreme Electrical Conditions

Biography:

John Webb received a BSEE degree from the US Naval Academy in 1982.  He qualified as Nuclear Engineering Officer in Submarines.  Currently a Principal Engineer for ABB R&D, he has 34 years’ experience in the electrical industry.  He is a senior member of the IEEE and Vice-Chair of the IEEE Switchgear Committee.  He has served in leadership roles for many IEEE standards including chair of the revision of IEEE Std C37.04.  He is also the USNC technical expert for the maintenance team of IEC 62271-100; and the USNC regular member for Cigré SC A3.
