Overview

The IEEE CS IEM SBC, in collaboration with IEEE CS Chandigarh University SBC, hosted an insightful session titled “Road to Richard E. Merwin Scholarship” on 20th September 2025. The event aimed to guide students in navigating the pathway to securing one of the most prestigious global recognitions awarded by the IEEE Computer Society.

Description

The Richard E. Merwin Scholarship (REMS) is among the most esteemed honors in computer science and engineering, awarded to only 20 students worldwide. It recognizes not just academic merit but also leadership and impactful contributions within IEEE and beyond.

The session was conducted by Ms. Nyasha Saurabh, Former Chairperson of IEEE CS Chandigarh University, Richard E. Merwin Scholar (2024), and currently a Network Engineer at Capgemini. An active IEEE volunteer, Ms. Nyasha’s leadership and achievements had earned her this global recognition.

Drawing from her personal journey, she provided participants with invaluable guidance on:

  • Eligibility Criteria: Applicants must hold at least 3 months of IEEE CS membership.

  • Evaluation Parameters: Academic performance, IEEE and non-IEEE involvement, and strong leadership qualities.

  • Global Impact: Beyond financial support, REMS offers international recognition, career development, and access to a worldwide professional network.

She highlighted how winning REMS enhanced her professional profile, opening opportunities for global collaborations and leadership roles. The session gave participants a clear roadmap of the application process, evaluation expectations, and the importance of balancing academic excellence with extracurricular leadership.
