IEEE PES Fort Worth Monthly Meeting - October 21, 2025
Hello all,
For our October meeting, we are happy to welcome Joe Warner, P.E. from POWER Engineers to come speak on Flexible AC Transmission Systems (FACTS). This discussion will focus on overview of devices, so come prepared with any questions you may have.
SYNOPSIS:
Installation of FACTS devices is on the rise. Oncor has multiple SVCs and STATCOMs in service with more planned to help solve the fast-paced growth in the grid. This presentation is intended to give an overview of these devices.
Speaker Bio:
Joe Warner, P.E. is a Senior Advisor in the ADS team based in Ft Worth, TX, where he supports strategic initiatives focused on grid reliability and resiliency, while supporting project execution of multiple STATCOM projects throughout North America. With a strong background in analytics and systems integration, Joe brings over a decade of experience in solving complex business challenges through innovative solutions.
Joe has also been involved with IEEE Power & Energy Society standards development in the Substations Committee since 2011. He is the current Past Chair of the Committee, Vice Chair of the FACTS & HVDC Stations Subcommittee, and serves as an officer or member of various working groups. Multiple IEEE papers, panels, and tutorials with Joe’s name can be found on the IEEE PES Resource Center.
Before joining POWER Engineers in 2021, Joe earned his bachelors and master’s in electrical engineering at Wichita State University (BS'04, MS'05) followed by 15 years at Hitachi Energy (formerly ABB), primarily as a system design engineer for FACTS installations.
As with all of our meetings, we will be providing lunch. If you do not pay online beforehand, we will not be purchasing lunch for you. Please reach out if there are any issues with payment and we will try to figure it out prior to the meeting. In my experience, Paypal is the easiest and has had the least issues in the past.
