IOT MEETS SPACE: EXPANDING STEM HORIZONS FOR UNDERSERVED STUDENTS AT SELANGOR THROUGH SATELLITE PROTOTYPING
- Participation: 25 students aged 15-16 yo
- 14 Arduino set were given including modules to develop satellite prototyping and to perform connection through LoRa for IoT application
- Students need to demonstrate the satellite application through CanSat development
The event "IoT Meets Space: Expanding STEM Horizons for Underserved Students at Selangor Through Satellite Prototyping" was hosted by Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) and partially funded by IEEE ComSoc under the TryEngineering STEM Grant Program to facilitate local Pre-University STEM activities. The program engaged 50 students aged 15-16 years at SMK Bandar Baru Salak Tinggi (12-13 August 2025) and SMK Seri Sepang (9-10 August 2025). Participants were provided with 14 Arduino sets and modules to develop satellite prototypes and establish connections through LoRa for IoT applications. The students showcased their projects through CanSat development, demonstrating their understanding of satellite applications. This hands-on event successfully introduced underserved students to space technology and IoT, sparking their interest in STEM fields and fostering practical skills. The program highlighted the impact of IEEE ComSoc's efforts in supporting STEM education for the next generation of innovators.
