EMBS NSW Forum on Inclusive Design for Personalized Medical Devices
Despite major advancements in medical device innovation, inclusive design remains under-addressed in both industry and academia. Traditional design approaches often marginalize edge users—those with disabilities, chronic conditions, or diverse physical and cognitive needs. Inclusive design reframes these users as catalysts for innovation, producing solutions that benefit all. By improving usability, inclusive products enhance safety through reduced cognitive load and fewer user errors. This event aims to address this gap by equipping engineers, researchers, and students with frameworks, examples, and connections that promote accessible, equitable device development. Expected outcomes include increased collaboration, a stronger understanding of user-centered methodologies, and deeper engagement with underserved populations.
Inclusive Design in Personalized Medical Devices is a forum exploring how medical device development can integrate inclusive design principles from ideation to delivery. The event will include a keynote and a moderated panel, followed by networking and interactive stations to facilitate more targeted discussions.
