Creative Strategies for Professional Development, Networking, and Leadership

We are in a time of transition in the career marketplace, both in the USA and the wider global engineering, energy and manufacturing environment. This rapidly evolving and dynamic situation presents both opportunities and challenges, particularly for those starting on the professional journey.

 

This talk, which will be followed by Q&A, will look at some examples of how to build and implement a career plan, suggest some skills to develop, including strong networking, whichdoesn't require simply attending large, impersonal events! It will also discuss creative strategies that focus on cultivating authentic relationships both online and offline and how to better prepare for success in both life and your chosen career.

Biography:

Dr. Bond graduated with his Ph.D. in Physics, in 1978, from City University London. He has experience as an academic, in industry and national laboratories. Most recently he was a Professor at Iowa State University in both Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering.  He retired in 2022 and continues to be active in research as a consultant and as Director of R&D with Sonogen Medical Inc. His previous positions include being a Laboratory Fellow with Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL), a Research Professor, University of Colorado, Boulder and Reader in Ultrasonics, University College London. He is author of the 4th Edition of the book – Ultrasonics (2024), D. Ensminger and L.J. Bond, CRC/Taylor and Francis.  

Dr. Bond is a Fellow of the American Association of the Advancement of Science, a Fellow of the Institute of Physics (UK), and a Senior Member of the IEEE. In recognition of his contribution to ultrasonics and nondestructive evaluation he was appointed as an Honorary Professor Beijing, University of Technology in 2019.   In 2009-10 he served as Director IEEE Region 6, and a member of the IEEE Board of Directors. He is currently the Chair of the IEEE Richland Section, Life Member Affinity Group (LMAG). Dr. Bond has been an invited speaker at many national and international meetings. He has been author or co-author for 23 book chapters, 19 books (most as editor), more than 90 peer reviewed journal papers, more than 220 papers in conference proceedings, and numerous technical reports. He holds 10 patents
