IEEE WIE UNB Student Affinity Group Kick-Off Event

 

The IEEE WIE UNB Kick-Off Event was held in celebration of IEEE Day 2025. The event featured an engaging in-person technical talk delivered by Samita Bai, followed by a creative sticker competition themed around Breast Cancer Awareness. Participants had the option to design their entries either digitally (using laptops) or manually (with craft materials provided). Winners were awarded exciting prizes, and refreshments were available throughout the evening. The event took place in Room H105, Head Hall, UNB, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM and marked the official launch of the IEEE WIE UNB Student Affinity Group.

Cybersecurity Meets Generative AI: Basics, Risks & Opportunities

This talk introduces the fundamentals of cybersecurity and explains the rise of generative AI in simple terms. It highlights the growing importance of digital safety, the transformative power of AI technologies, and the ways these two domains converge—bringing both new opportunities and emerging risks.

Biography:

Dr. Samita Bai, Ph.D. is currently working as a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Canadian Institute for Cybersecurity (CIC) at the University of New Brunswick (UNB). Dr. Bai holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the Institute of Business Administration (IBA), Karachi, Pakistan. She has been an Assistant Professor at Salim Habib University (SHU), Karachi, Pakistan, with extensive experience in AI, Machine Learning, Cybersecurity, and Data Science. Her research focuses on Large Language Models (LLMs), Explainable AI (XAI), AI ethics, and Information Retrieval.

Dr. Bai is a Senior IEEE member and has actively contributed to Women in Engineering (WIE), previously serving as the Chair of the IEEE WIE Affinity Group, Karachi Section, Pakistan, and currently serving as the Treasurer of the IEEE WIE Affinity Group, New Brunswick Section, Canada.
