In this lecture, Professor Emeritus Shmuel (Sam) Ben-Yaakov will discuss intuition-based approaches to teaching and research in analog and power electronics.
Biography:
Shmuel (Sam) Ben-Yaakov (Life Fellow, IEEE) received the B.Sc. in electrical engineering from the Technion, Haifa, Israel (1961), and the M.Sc. and Ph.D. in engineering from the University of California, Los Angeles (1967, 1970). He is Professor Emeritus in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, Beer-Sheva, Israel. From 1985 to 1989, he served as Chair of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. In 1984, he established the Power Electronics Laboratory at Ben-Gurion University (PEL-BGU), a center of knowledge and excellence in analog and power electronics. He maintains the Sam Ben-Yaakov YouTube channel with educational videos on analog and power electronics (https://www.youtube.com/user/sambenyaakov/videos).
His research interests include analog and power electronics and engineering education. Prof. Ben-Yaakov consults for commercial companies and governmental agencies worldwide and has founded start-up companies. He is also Chief Innovation Officer at IRP Systems, Ness Ziona Science Park, Israel (https://www.irpsystems.com/), where he manages the research and development of advanced technologies in the area of EV powertrain.
