PCB Design Workshop
The PCB Designing Workshop, organized by IEEE CAS BITM, was conducted from 27th to 29th October 2025 at BITM, Ballari. The three-day workshop aimed to provide a complete understanding of Printed Circuit Board (PCB) design, starting from the fundamentals to the advanced stages of implementation. It offered an ideal blend of theoretical concepts and hands-on sessions to help participants gain both conceptual clarity and practical expertise.
The sessions began with an introduction to the basics of PCB design and layout, where participants learned about PCB structure, layers, component placement, trace routing, and design considerations for minimizing noise and interference. They were guided through the process of schematic capture, converting circuit diagrams into digital form using professional design tools. The workshop then progressed to routing techniques, emphasizing the importance of signal integrity, trace width, and ground planes in ensuring reliable circuit performance.
A major highlight of the workshop was the hands-on training using industry-relevant PCB design software such as KiCad, Altium Designer, and Eagle. Participants were given step-by-step guidance on using these tools to design and simulate their own circuits. They also learned to generate Gerber files, which are essential manufacturing outputs used by PCB fabricators to produce the final boards.
Throughout the event, participants were encouraged to apply their learning by working on mini design tasks, enabling them to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and real-world applications. The workshop was open to undergraduate and postgraduate students, electronics enthusiasts, and hobbyists passionate about circuit design and prototyping. By the end of the three days, attendees had developed a strong foundation in PCB design workflows, from schematic creation to manufacturing file generation, equipping them with valuable skills for their future academic and professional projects.
