“LaTeX Workshop: Mastering the Art of Academic and Research Writing”
IEEE NSU Industry Applications Society Student Branch Chapter successfully organised a very informative seminar titled “LaTeX Workshop: Mastering the Art of Academic and Research Writing” on 15 October, 2025 at the North South University premises. This workshop had been organised to let the members gain insight into the basics of the research paper writing software called “LaTeX” and its usability in writing research papers, theses, scientific journal articles and much more.
The seminar commenced at 4:30 PM with Daifa Musfirat, Incharge of the Content Writing and Publications Team of the IEEE NSU IAS SBC, warmly introducing the instructor, Dr. Md Shahidullah Kaiser. He is an Assistant Professor at the University of Osaka, Japan, and awardee of the prestigious MEXT scholarship. The instructor kicked off the seminar by sharing his experience in completing his PhD at the University of Osaka. He then introduced the LaTeX software, emphasizing its importance in high-quality thesis, technical and scientific documentation, as it converts text into layout instructions in perfectly formatted PDF files. Dr. Kaiser also emphasized how this software is used for generating complex maths and physics equations, citations, impeccable scientific articles, and curriculum vitae for academia.
The instructor subsequently taught the attendees the basics of LaTeX, such as the methods of writing article titles, dates, authors’ names, creating lists, and different text formats. He also taught the different ways of writing multiple mathematical equations and physics formulas, highlighting the importance of this software in creating high-quality scientific papers, as other software do not have the ability to take the inputs of complex physics and math variables.
As the event proceeded to its end, the token of appreciation for Dr. Md Shahidullah Kaiser was handed over by Dr. Riasat Khan, faculty advisor of IEEE NSU Industry Applications Society Student Branch Chapter. Dr. Riasat Khan, sir, also imparted valuable insight on the importance of LaTeX software for writing research papers and curriculum vitae.
The session officially concluded at 6:30 PM, with the handing over of the certificates to the participants, followed by a group photo with everyone.
